Legong: Dance of the Virgins (DVD)
Filmed entirely in Bali by the Marquis Henry de la Falaise in 1935, LEGONG: DANCE OF THE VIRGINS is a tragic tale of love denied. When respected dancer Poutou falls for the young musician Nyoung, her father is delighted and agrees to help Poutou conquer the Legong legend's heart – but their matchmaking plans fall into dire straits when Poutou's half-sister, Saplak, pines for Nyoung as well. Featuring a new restoration and soundtrack by the UCLA Film & Television Archive, a second optional score composed by Richard Marriott and plenty of additional bonus features, this unsung classic begs for a spot on any film buff's shelf of foreign cinema.
BONUS FEATURES: Second optional track featuring a new score by Richard Marriott, I Made Subandi and performed by Gamelan Sekar Jaya and the Club Foot Orchestra; Kliou the Killer (1937), Henry de la Falaise’s previously "lost" feature film; Gods of Bali (1952) documentary with camerawork by Nikola Drakulic and prepared under the supervision of Robert Snyder.
